  1. TIMELINE Overview of Virtual Reality Overview of Augmented Reality Starting

a career in VR/AR VR/AR Application in Nigeria AROME IBRAHIM Co-founder of Experis Immersive. A 360 VR content developer and also a VR/AR enthusiat and an explorer. VR/AR Communities & Groups
  2. OVERVIEW OF VIRTUAL REALITY 1 Virtual reality is the creation

of a synthetic, believable virtual world that is made possible by hardware and software. In 1968, computer scientist Ivan Sutherland invented the first known head-mounted display, or HMD: the Sword of Damocles. The system incorporated computer graphics into an HMD. In 2012, Palmer Luckey launched a KickStarter campaign for an HMD called the Oculus Rift, which was eventually acquired by Facebook. In 2014, Google released the Google Cardboard, which became the most widely- distributed VR headset of all time.
  3. OVERVIEW OF AUGMENTED REALITY 2 Augmented reality uses existing reality

and physical objects to trigger computer-generated enhancements over the top of reality, in real time. Essentially, AR is a technology that lays computer- generated images over a user’s view of the real world. Augmented reality works in conjunction with headsets and/or digital devices such as tablets, smartphones and even PCs. The devices themselves contain software, sensors and digital projectors that trigger digital displays onto physical objects.
  4. STARTING A CAREER IN VR/AR 3 In general, VR &

AR development requires a creative use of spatial thinking. Creating in 3D is inherently based in math: think back to your x,y,z coordinate days from middle school geometry. Start your VR & AR development journey by learning the basics of 3D game development Learning how to use a 3D game engine (Unity or Unreal Engine) and Vuforia for AR. Creating or importing 3D assets to populate the environment you’re building (consider 3D modeling tools like Maya or Blender or online asset stores like Google’s Poly) Programming in that game engine (consider learning C#) to have objects in your designed world interact with each other. Consider capturing 360° photos and videos to start developing the muscle of thinking spatially.
  5. VR/AR COMMUNITIES & GROUPS - AFRICA AR/VR Africa is a

community of content creators, enthusiasts, creatives, developers and technologists who are keen about making a difference with Augmented and Virtual Reality. It is changing the narrative here in Africa, as creators and not just consumers of technology. AR/VR Africa hosts a hackathon in 17 cities across Africa. 4 1. AR/VR AFRICA 2. ELECTRIC SOUTH Electric South collaborates with artists across Africa in emerging storytelling, through labs, production and distribution. It provides mentor-ship, production services, funding and exhibition for a network of artists across Africa to explore their worlds through immersive, interactive stories including virtual and augmented reality, and other digital media.
  6. VR/AR COMMUNITIES & GROUPS - WORLD 4 VR | AR

    | MR is India’s first and now largest virtual reality and augmented reality community dedicated to empowering citizens through cutting edge immersive technology. At present, It is increasing the awareness of virtual reality and augmented reality and equip developers with the skills to develop immersive experiences that can change the world. 1. VR AR MR 2. VR AR ASSOCIATION (VRARA) is an international organization designed to foster collaboration between innovative companies and brands in the VR and AR ecosystem that accelerates growth, fosters research and education, helps develop industry standards, connects member organizations and promotes the services of member.
  7. VR/AR APPLICATION IN NIGERIA - EDUCATION 5 GESAL uses visual

learning to offer quality education at a low cost to secondary school students leveraging AR to visualize complicated diagrams in 3D and deploy virtual laboratory tools. EDU VR is an education-based VR /AR learning experience solution with mission is to provide schools and students with immersive learning contents through the use of VR/AR lessons that are aligned to their curriculum. By creating an immersive and interactive learning experience without the use of textbooks, AR and VR technology empowers learners to explore and learn at their own pace, thus stimulating learning and comprehension and enhances critical retention. VR and AR-based apps for education, that combine digital technologies and learning, improve the educational process and allow students to acquire information visually.
  8. VR/AR APPLICATION IN NIGERIA - VR MEDIA 7 VR/AR can

be applied into 360 VR media and Gaming development. 360 video is a spherical video format which, when viewed on a virtual reality headset, gives viewers the illusion of ‘being there’. It's generally a non-interactive format and it can be seen in 2D or 3D. While gaming development is a new medium of creating immersive games that changes user interaction using a virtual reality headset. VR360 Stories is Nigeria’s pioneer Virtual Reality / 360-degree video production company. We bring experience and passion to what we do, combining our knowledge of VR technology with fresh ideas and innovative approaches. UrbanDev Studio is a game development company that produces high quality/definition games. UrbanDev Studio has already began development of “Rat Escape”. A fun and intuitive game is about to hit your Android devices
  9. VR/AR APPLICATION IN NIGERIA - HEALTH 8 Vmedkit is a

social enterprise with a mission to increase access to mental healthcare by leveraging Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET). The patient is exposed to the source of their disorder, for example, a war or accident. Healthcare is one of the biggest adopters of VR/AR, which encompasses robotic surgery, phobia treatment, surgery simulation. Many healthcare organizations across the globe have started making use of VR in their operations and have realized its benefits. Some of the key applications of virtual reality in medicine are in Dentistry, treatment for PTSD, Nursing, Autism treatment, VR Surgery simulation, phobia treatment.
  10. VR/AR APPLICATION IN NIGERIA - REAL ESTATE 9 Real estate

industry quickly adopted elements of this technology, utilizing 3D photography and video to create interactive walk-through of properties that can be experienced via a computer screen or VR headsets. This allows potential buyers and investors to see inside a premise from their computer screens, gaining a sense of the building’s space, style and atmosphere without having to make a physical visit. Applications are in virtual tours, virtual sagging and architectural visualization. Experis Immersive is a leading virtual tour, virtual reality content development company creating immersive, innovative and interactive virtual reality solutions.
