  1. Graduate students should check their email less frequently. By checking

their email often, they will be distracted by "Opportunity Stress" and will not be able to focus on their current work. Professors need help organizing their work flow & to-do lists. Because the real stress does not come from checking their email, but from the real work generated by the email communication, which is called "Work Stress." Team leaders need something that can help them save time from reading and replying to emails because they are too busy to do this promptly, which creates "Time Stress." Information & Work Overload
  2. Interviews • A 6th-year graduate student 1. "I check my

email 50 times per day. I worry about forgetting important things." 2. "There are so many opportunities and information in these emails but I can't even finish my current work! " 3. "I'm afraid of opening this email because it's about a funding application and I really need to apply for funding. But once I open it, I have to start the work and it usually will take me several days which I don't have now ..." • An assistant professor 1."I have multiple email accounts to categorize different people and groups. Certain roles stay in certain accounts. When I'm checking, I'm prepared for that role." 2. "You are being asked for the next action after you read the email." 3. "I insist on switching roles and leave physical and virtual space for breathing. " • A director of a research institute "The real stress is I have no time to answer so many emails and they seem all very important to the people at work!"
  3. Stress Model email Sometimes there is only one situation that

attacks you. Sometimes they come together! Do the math and it will give you the pressure level!
