10 Reasons You Need an Aquaponic Garden

Here are my top 10 reasons why you need your own aquaponic garden. Please share so more people can find out the benefits of growing aquaponically. Everyone could benefit by setting up their own aquaponic system!

  1. #10 - Fresh & Tasty Homegrown Food If you have

ever eaten a vine-ripened tomato then you already know there is no comparison between home grown produce and store bought produce. Store bought produce travels miles to the store, but aquaponic garden produce only travels a few feet to your table for maximum taste and quality. 2. #9 - Protein and veggies You can grow healthy protein

in your backyard with an aquaponic system - fish! What other gardening method allows you to grow your own protein to go with the vegetables you grow? Ok – so you can grow beans in most any garden; but you grow fish in an aquaponic garden, and fish is a very lean healthy protein. If you miss beans, you can grow them together with the fish in your aquaponic garden and get even more protein from an aquaponic system than from a regular garden. Think about a fish and salad dinner fresh from your garden... yummy! Slideshow and pictures by Daniel of WhatIsAquaponics.co
  3. #8 - No wasted water An aquaponic garden uses water

much more efficiently than a traditional garden, because there is no waste from water run-off, or water seeping past the plant roots into the water table. Aquaponic systems require water to be added to replace only the water used by the plants or evaporated. So conserve water by growing aquaponically! 4. #7 - Easier to maintain than hydroponics A hydroponic garden

has to be carefully monitored to see which nutrients are missing from the system, in order to add fertilizer; or to see which nutrients have built up to excess, requiring water to be drained and replaced until the nutrients are back within acceptable ranges. Not so with an aquaponic system, which does not require any addition of nutrients (the fish do that!). Slideshow and pictures by Daniel of WhatIsAquaponics.co
  5. #6 - Less exposure to chemicals Aquaponically grown produce is

naturally chemical free, since you cannot use any pesticide or even fertilizer unless it is safe for the fish, and you cannot give the fish anything that is not safe for the plants. Do you even want to think about what may have been sprayed on store bought produce before you bring it home? Slideshow and pictures by Daniel of WhatIsAquaponics.co
  6. #5 - Creates self-sufficiency If the power goes out, how

many grocery stores are going to stay open? If you grow your own food, even just a small portion of your own food, that food is yours even when there are disruptions in grocery store supplies. Even if the power never goes out again, prices keep going up and home-grown food from your aquaponic system will always be free. Slideshow and pictures by Daniel of WhatIsAquaponics.co
  7. #4 - Less weeding An aquaponic garden starts with a

blank slate, and you choose which seeds to introduce to your system. No more backbreaking hours pulling weeds from the garden, or trying to carefully use the weed-wacker in the garden without hitting the garden plants like I used to do in my traditional garden. 8. #3 - Bigger and better harvest With constant access to

water and fertilizer in an aquaponic system, plants grow like crazy, and keep growing even when your traditional garden is waiting for you to turn the sprinkler on again or spread out another bag of manure. Slideshow and pictures by Daniel of WhatIsAquaponics.co
  9. #2 - Small space requirements An aquaponic garden does not

take nearly the space that a traditional garden needs. In fact, you could grow a small garden on top of a fish tank in your living room, like I do with my indoor system, using space that would otherwise just be empty wasted space. In fact, many aquaponic systems make use of vertical farming techniques to maximize production per square foot of space. Slideshow and pictures by Daniel of WhatIsAquaponics.co
  10. #1 - It's just awesome Aquaponics is still gaining mainstream

adoption and there are so many different variations of these systems you can customize your system to match your unique situation. You can join me in teaching your friends about the benefits of growing aquaponically, and explaining why fish and veggies are better together. Slideshow and pictures by Daniel of WhatIsAquaponics.co
