Every time the feedback was the same. An engaging,
effective and fun learning tool.
Now lets get back to the topic of learning.
How do we currently learn new tools and their concepts?
Plowing through docs and following training courses is not
effective / efficient.
Everything is changing with increasing speed.
In just one year we have four schedulers take
the stage.
Keeping up with all the new tools and their
concepts is impossible.
How do you choose which of these tools to focus
on?
It's not only about specs and costs. Operational simplicity and
required knowledge are also a factor.
Diving into these tools means investing time and $$.
learning new tools? What are we looking for when
1 Something that fits into our existing schedule.
2 Something that challenges us to think for ourselves,
not just to follow along.
3 Something involving that allows for trial & error.
4 Something that teaches more than just the happy flow.
5 Something we can relate to, and can apply
to our own situation.
6 Learn from others and discover what knowledge we are
missing.
up to these requirements? How does gamification stack
1 Something that fits into our existing schedule. • Challenges
are bite-sized. • Challenges are self-paced.
2 Something that challenges us to think for ourselves, not
just to follow along. • Learn by doing. • Think for ourselves. • Not just how to get started.
3 Something involving that allows for trial & error.
Something that teaches more than just the happy flow. • Keep trying until we solve it. • Learn the quirks of the tools.
5 Something we can relate to, and can apply to
our own situation. • Simulate real life scenarios. • Using our own tools / environment.
6 Learn from others and discover what knowledge we are
missing. • See how others solve problems. • See how we stack up to others. • See in which areas we can improve.
Other sectors have gamification of the learning process, such as
CTF.
Teaching kids how to code.
Even vim keybindings can be fun!
Why is there not such a thing for learning infrastructure
related subjects?
at a customer case. Applying the lessons learned
Learn from both making challenges and completing them.
We can track the progress of the knowledge transfer to
the team.
Can keep acquiring and sharing knowledge long after we are
gone.
So what does this look like?
Pick from multiple competitions.
Play through connected scenarios.
Complete the challenges in the browser.
And create them, using the same interface.
Come join us, we have cookies. What's in it for
you?
Complement your documentation with challenges.
Use real life scenarios to learn how to handle
them.
Assess new colleagues by challenging them.
Learn from each other and yourself.
expand upon this idea? How can we further
