Giovanni De Gasperis Introduction to Gamification Project description Project implementation Virtual Laboratories Prototypes What is Gamification? Maybe having fun while learning..?
Giovanni De Gasperis Introduction to Gamification Project description Project implementation Virtual Laboratories Prototypes What is Gamification? Our aim Make it REALISTIC and SCIENTIFIC valid, but not to replace real laboratories. TRAINING is the issue! Jump aboard the virtual reality (VR) technological train Give students more tools to learn Virtual physics and chemistry vs. animations: - state machine interaction model - physical game engine - user centered design methodology
Giovanni De Gasperis Introduction to Gamification Project description Project implementation Virtual Laboratories Prototypes Interaction model with state machines Follow the user in process learning and understanding
Giovanni De Gasperis Introduction to Gamification Project description Project implementation Virtual Laboratories Prototypes User Centered Design Involve the final user, the student, early in the design phase

Giovanni De Gasperis: Assistant Professor in Computer Systems, IT expert on e-Learning and virtual reality Dr. Maria Grazia Palmerini: Biologist, Microscopy expert
Giovanni De Gasperis Introduction to Gamification Project description Project implementation Virtual Laboratories Prototypes EMICVL Tempus Project Establishment of Multidisciplinary Innovative Centres for the Development of Virtual Laboratories (MICVL) in Biology and Medicine Main Objectives OB1: To establish Multidisciplinary Innovative Centres for the Development of Virtual Laboratories in Biology and Medicine (MICVL) in the each participating Eastern Neighboring Area (ENA) University. OB2: To create a Virtual Medical Microbiology Laboratory (VMML), as a pilot product for the established MICVL. OB3: To develop an efficient optimal scheme of VMML commercialization and advertising. OB4: To disseminate the project outcomes applying strategies of both internal and external dissemination.

Giovanni De Gasperis Introduction to Gamification Project description Project implementation Virtual Laboratories Prototypes EMICVL Tempus Project Main phases of project development Selection of adopted technology (OpenSim or Unity?) Training on video processing and video-making, podcasting Training on gamification, virtual reality modeling and rendering Equip each team with: HD digital scientific microscope, cameras, high end PC and iMac. Virtual laboratory scenario definition by each partner Learner interaction design and story board Virtual laboratory scenario implementation Integration of all scenarios in a single 3D serious game Validation and testing with local students
