  1. seeds to share Informal Urbanism, Nordstadt , Dortmund 12/09/2015 Lisa

Faulenbach, Lisa Stadtler (TU Dortmund), Mara Papavasileiou, Alexandros Zomas (NTUA)
  2. If one thinks about the informal in urban development today,

one inevitably separates oneself from images of governance and order. Such a step cannot go beyond a multiplication of “citizen participation”, as it is practiced in many cities at the moment. It would be naïve as well to take up the informal in German cities only in the form of colourful vegetable beds. All this would leave the conditions as they were, while informal urbanism would have to turn them from top to bottom. The article extends the consideration to the varied phenomena which emerge between the informal use of public space by trendy sports and the sustainable activities of civic foundations in many places today. Thus one reaches the hopes of future urban development, but one enters a field that is absolutely prone to conflict and that should be strengthened strategically. This can hardly be ordered and governed, but it must necessarily be integrated into the urban planning processes of consideration and democratic legitimation. This is so because the promotion of the increasing possibilities of influence of the actors of civil society always requires calling for more concrete arguments for their supposed positive effects. Stephan Willinger, Governance of the informal. Considerations of planning theory
