  1. A Year for the Books In 2025, Warner Bros. had

    an incredible year theatrically, with an unprecedented run of seven consecutive films opening above $40 million and reaching number 1 at the domestic box office. These movies were all different genres and styles, ranging from action-adventure comedies to historical dramas and horror. Warner Bros. was also the first studio to reach $4 billion at the global box office in 2025, a milestone it has not reached since 2019. Whether releasing the highest-grossing sports movie of all time or arthouse films garnering dozens of award nominations, it is clear that the company’s creative endeavors, headed by Warner Bros. chiefs Michael DeLuca and Pamela Abdy, are on the right track and should excite audiences for future releases.   2. A Minecraft Movie was a major phenomenon, grossing $961 million

    worldwide and becoming the fifth highest-grossing movie of the year. As of January 2026, it is now the second-highest- grossing video game adaptation of all time. Both fans and general audiences eagerly anticipated the film’s release, which had the biggest domestic box office opening weekend of 2025 at $162.8 million and stayed at the no. 1 for two consecutive weeks. Internationally, the film opened at $150.7 million with the largest markets being the United Kingdom ($19.9 million), China ($14.5 million), and Mexico ($11.2 million). Striking Gold at the Box Office This action-adventure comedy is the first-ever big-screen adaptation of the hit video game Minecraft. Steve, a struggling salesman played by Jack Black, explores an abandoned mine and discovers a mysterious portal that transports him to a brand-new cubic-styled world where creativity thrives. When a group of four misfits finds themselves trapped in the same world, Steve and his new comrades must use their unique skills to fight against the piglin army and find their way home.   3. Shot on a blend of IMAX and Ultra Panavision 70

    mm film, Sinners was released in a variety of formats, including 10 IMAX 70 mm theatres worldwide. A week before the film’s opening, Coogler released a video breaking down the available options, encouraging audiences to see the film on the largest screens for the best viewing experience. The film opened no. 1 at the domestic box office, with an opening weekend total of $45.6 million. Nearly 45% of those ticket sales came from IMAX and other Premium Screen Formats alone. Crafting an Immersive Experience A blend of historical drama and horror, Sinners is an original film from visionary writer/director Ryan Coogler. Taking place in the early 20th century, twins Smoke and Stack recruit their teenage cousin, Sammy, to play music at their new dance joint. When Sammy’s transcendent performance attracts the attention of the supernatural, a group tries to survive and fend off the vampires until sunrise. The film received rave reviews, earning a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, 84 on Metacritic, and was the first horror movie to earn an “A” CinemaScore in 30 years.     reinvents the original superhero for today’s world in this summer blockbuster. When Superman intervenes in international conflicts to protect innocent civilians, a target is drawn on his back by billionaire Lex Luthor, who seizes the opportunity to turn the general public against him. With Clark’s motives being questioned by fellow heroes and even his newfound girlfriend and reporter, Lois Lane, Superman must rise to the occasion and prove he believes in truth, justice, and a better tomorrow. This is the first theatrical release in the new DCU, helmed by DC Studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Nearly every week, a large tentpole or franchise film premiered. Despite this, Superman flew at the box office, opening with $125 million and holding the top spot for two weeks at the domestic box office. The movie earned a total of $624.3 million worldwide, the biggest DC film since Matt Reeves’ The Batman in 2022.   5. A New Era In early 2023, heads of DC Studios

    James Gunn and Peter Safran announced a tentative slate of upcoming projects based on DC Comics characters. Now, after a strong first theatrical release with Superman, the studio is moving forward with its schedule of interconnected films and television shows. Peacemaker season 2 premiered on August 21, 2025, and the sequel for Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow, has a release date of July 9, 2027. DC Studios has three projects set to release within the next calendar year and several more in active development. 2026 Projects Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock in the titular role, is the next theatrical release for the studio. Described as a science fiction epic based on the book Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film will release in theaters on June 26, 2026. Supergirl Lanterns is the next DC Studios television series to release on HBO Max. Starring Kyle Chandler as veteran Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, the duo will investigate a murder in the American heartland, premiering in August 2026. Lanterns Clayface, written by Mike Flanagan and directed by James Watkins, stars Tom Rhys Harries as the shape-shifting supervillain. Little is known about the story, but with production completed in November, the movie is shaping up for a theatrical release on October 23, 2026. Clayface Superman, Warner Bros.

    Leonardo DiCaprio as washed-up ex-revolutionary Bob Ferguson, who lives off the grid raising his teenage daughter Willa. When a military officer from their past reemerges on the hunt for Willa, and she seemingly disappears, Bob seeks help from those around him and sets out across the desert to reunite with his daughter and face the consequences of their past. RELEASED: SEPTEMBER 26, 2025 DIRECTOR: PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON PRODUCERS: ADAM SOMNER, SARA MURPHY & PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON One Battle After Another One Battle After Another was Anderson’s biggest project yet, with the largest production budget, the biggest marketing push, and the first of his films to be released in IMAX. The film opened to immense critical acclaim, earning the highest Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and CinemaScore of his career. On opening weekend, One Battle After Another took the number 1 spot at the box office, earning $22.4 million domestically and $48.5 million internationally. The film ended its initial theatrical run with a total of $209.3 million, more than quadruple his second highest grossing film in the past 15 years.   7. The horror-drama has set a new record for the most

    nominations ever awarded to a single film, with 16, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Director for Coogler himself. The film has so far won four Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, two Golden Globes, two Grammys, and, most recently, Best Ensemble and Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan at the Actor Awards. F1: The Movie has been nominated for several technical awards, including four Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, and, most notably, Best Picture. 2026 Awards Season Aside from Warner Bros.’ unprecedented financial success, the studio has had a staggering number of award nominations and wins for its 2025 releases. Most notably, Warner Bros. earned 30 Academy Award nominations, tying for the most for any single studio. The record was first achieved in 2005, also by Warner Bros. The newest Paul Thomas Anderson film received the second-most Academy Award nominations this year, with 13, including four acting nominations and Best Picture. One Battle After Another was also nominated for 13 Critics’ Choice Awards, winning Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture. At the Golden Globes, the movie took an additional four wins, including Best Picture. Tying a Record Weapons has had a successful awards season, most notably with Amy Madigan winning the Best Supporting Actress award at both the Critics Choice and Actor Awards and being nominated for the same role at the Academy Awards.
