Digital Publishing

We live in an interesting time. In a time where an entire collection of newspapers, magazines, CDs, and albums can fit onto any number of small and portable devices.

There are ebook readers, smart phones, and tablets. There are so many different devices with so many different operating systems that it starts to look daunting and scary at times.

As designers, web developers, communicators, etc. this poses a very exciting challenge. One in which finding the solution is constantly evolving as new technologies are developed.

Now as more and more people are looking to these devices for their news, entertainment, and general information, how do we take things that are important to how we communicate and prepare them for a ever increasing digital world.

  1. Publishing is the process of production and dissemination of literature,

music, or information — the activity of making information available to general public.
  2. Electronic publishing (also referred to as ePublishing or electronic publishing)

includes the digital publication of e-books, EPUBs, and electronic articles, and the development of digital libraries and catalogues.
  3. ePub (short for electronic publication) is a free and open

e-book standard by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF). ePub is designed for re-flowable content, meaning that an EPUB reader can optimize text for a particular display device.
  4. Fixed-layout ePub The basic idea of a fixed-layout ePub is

to offer books where the layout is as important for the document as the content. These include but are not limited to eTextbooks and children's eBooks. And is currently only supported by a few devices.
