Language Skills and the Multicultural Environment that YCIS Shanghai Offers

Shanghai is a cosmopolitan city that reflects the impacts of globalisation, as people from around the world live and work together. With such an environment, it's only logical that YCIS Shanghai would create a learning environment that compliments the city's vibrant and multicultural nature. By also encourages cultural learning and understanding, they have built a multicultural and diverse environment for students to grow and thrive in.

  1. Shanghai Shanghai is one of the most engaging and vibrant

    cities in the world. It is becoming increasingly as influential and cosmopolitan as cities such as London and New York. Shanghai reflects the impacts of globalisation, as people from around the world live and work together.
  2. Shanghai Shanghai has a mix of cultures and languages which

    reflect this trend, such as the Bund, Qibao and the modern Pudong. YCIS Shanghai is well placed within the heart of the city to capture this integration of Eastern and Western influences.
  3. Bilingual Education While our focus is on the provision of

    a strong academic education, we also take care to develop the multilingual skills of our students. In our Early Years and pre-school classes we have two teachers: one Chinese and one Western. This ensures that our students can begin learning languages when they are younger and their brains are better suited to it compared to adolescents and adults.
  4. Bilingual Education The commitment to bilingual education carries on into

    secondary education. Our international curriculum lessons are taught in English, but all students are required to learn Mandarin, the official language of China. Completing the linguistic foundations built in the pre-school and primary lessons.

    Shanghai the students come from over 40 different nations, which provides a multicultural backdrop. This benefits the language development of our pupils, as greater knowledge of other cultures aids the learning of language, which is naturally embedded within the native cultures.

    extra- curricular days and activities that allow for a more rounded education that complements academic pursuits. This provides knowledge of the cultures in which languages form greater meaning, such as the students pictured performing Macbeth by English playwright William Shakespeare.

    balanced and internationally focused education, we run trips for our secondary school students to a range of destinations, where students have both historical and cultural learning opportunities.
