  1. Before you read and while you read the paper 1.

    Find out what the writer is intending to do in the paper (purpose) 2. Read to the entire draft before commenting 01 PEER REVIEW – How to #SFU323
  2. 1. Praise what works well in the draft; point to

    specific passages. 2. Comment on large issues first 1. Does the draft respond to the assignment? 2. Is the draft effectively organized? 3. If appropriate, is the draft convincing in its argument? 4. Is evidence used properly? 5. Can references be improved? 3. Go on to smaller issues later (awkward or confusing sentences, style, grammar, word choice, proofreading). 4. Be specific in your response (explain where you get stuck, what you don't understand) and in your suggestions for revision. And as much as you can, explain why you're making particular suggestions. 5. Identify what's missing, what needs to be explained more fully. Also identify what can be cut. 6.
