  1. The Problem • Computers have managed to touch every aspect

of our life be it via pc, tablets, smartphones, etc. • However in India , only a small percentage has access to any computing device. • This revolutionary technology remains out of reach of the majority of Indian population due to cost considerations and . This leads to them being left in the void as this world gears up towards adaptation of computers.
  2. Our Solution : The PeaPod Our product PeaPod is mainly

consisting of two parts : • Pod - The Hardware : Pod is a full fledged single board computer - capable of running Linux Desktop and Android . The Pod is customizable based on user needs and has features unrivalled by other products in this segment. • Pea - The Software : Having a good hardware is not enough, it should be usable and user friendly. We want to rethink the way software is made for the people who currently dont use any. We will make customized apps targetted at the population who havent had any experience of using computer.
  3. Pod - The Hardware System on Chip is a new

technology which has made it possible to have powerful single board computers. Pod is full feature set CPU with 1GB of RAM and GPU. Pod is capable of running most of the common apps like word and chrome without breaking a sweat. (PS : We played Modern Combat on this )
  4. Pea - The Software Internet boom happened , everything is

an app but this phenomenon has not touched most of India. They havent experienced the power yet - it is tough to target a segment who doesnt have any prior experience with computers. Hence we are working on providing a smooth "out of the box" experience for users of PeaPod. Everything is customizable : • You are casual user - try Android. • If you are using for day to day activities - try Linux. • IRCTC , Spoken Tutorials , Ebooks , Games , Read on Click for Illiterate - not to mention the already large set of apps available of Android / Linux which just run.
  5. Social Impact Primary and most visible impact areas are :

    • Spread of Education : Increased and improved education through computers or about computers would contain the poverty in all fronts. • Better Economic Conditions : PeaPod can play an important role in direct poverty alleviation by enhancing activities of poor and increasing their productivity through services like echoupal and information village research • Health : Visible symptoms are often neglected due to ignorance, especially with poor people. Internet availability can act as a first point of information • Bridging the Divide : A lot ot services have emerged on internet. Specific applications like online train(mentioning IRCTC booking, commodity price information, info about laws etc). Students from lower income families do not access to resources. Web is a great equaliser - students can now access various facilities like online courses, distance education and e- learning.
  6. Market Size We plan to target the segment which has

TV’s and access to telephones, but not to computer. Thus 37.8% of 22,66,92,667 households corresponding to roughly 85 Million households
  7. Our Competitiors Key success factors in our industry are -

    1. Affordability - Price is the first criteria which is looked at by customers. Many a times very low cost devices are sought after just because they provide value for money. 2. Distribution Network - Easy availability and awareness about the product 3. Product Capability - Ensure easy usability and rich feature set. 4. Customer Focus - Unless the product fits right into the the jigsaw of customer’s requirement, they are reluctant to go for it.
  8. Some numbers The planned market price is INR 3000 ,

the lowest of tablets cost INR 4.9k (Leaving out Aakash - we will come back to that).
  9. More numbers The first pilot phase we plan to put

1000 PeaPod's in peoples hands - this will be our developer preview version and also our testing batch to gather feedback. After this we plan to sell around 20k devices per year for the next year and continue team building before beefing up production.
  10. Our Team We are a group of 3 techy "geeks"

from IIT Bombay who started out working on PeaPod after working on the Rasberry Pi and its possible use in the Indian scenario. We are in the process of adding more team members over the coming days to build the design and the sales/marketing teams.
