  2. Catechism  Question 6: May all men make use of

    the Scriptures?  Answer: All men are not only permitted, but commanded and exhorted, to read, hear, and understand the Scriptures.  Scripture: John 5:39; Luke 16:29; Acts 8:28-30; 17:11.
  3. Catechism  Question 7: What do the Scriptures mainly teach?

     Answer: The Scriptures mainly teach what man is to believe about God and what duty God requires of man.  Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16, 17; John 20:31; Acts 24:14; 1 Corinthians 10:11; Ecclesiastes 12:13.  16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
  4. The Older Brother! Q: Did the older brother rejoice with

    the father when the prodigal son returned? Q: Why not? Q: What did the older brother complain to the father about? Q: What did the older brother want from his father?
  5. The Older Brother  Q: Do you remember who Jesus

    told this parable to? - Pharisees and Sinners  Q: Which group was like the older brother? - Pharisees  Q: When are we like the older brother in our lives? - Judging people… wanting people to hurt or suffer.. When we are jealous… when we do not rejoice with others….  Q: What do these things reveal about our hearts?
  6. Prodigal Son The Older Brother  Abandons his father 

    Loves Money  Loves the world  Crazy living  Bad choices  The Father invites him back!  Only stays with his father for selfish gain  Loves his own “right- ness”  Judges others  The Father invites him back!  Does he come back??? Tale of 2 Sinner Brothers
  7. “The Generous / Gracious Father” Q: What would a father

    have normally done in that culture to the son when he asked for the inheritance and then wasted it and returned? Q: What was the father doing when the son was gone? Q: Did men back then run?....ever? Q: How did the father treat his son on his return?
  8. Our Gracious and Generous Father:  Q: What do we

    learn about God in this story?  Q: In the story, who paid the price for the son’s bad decisions and sinful lifestyle?  Q: Do you understand that God is waiting on you to turn to him?!  Q: Who initiates repairing the broken relationships in the story? - The Father runs to the prodigal son - The Father comes out to the older brother and invites him in
  9. Our Gracious and Generous Father  Q: When you turn

    to God and ask him to forgive you…. Do you have to earn your way in to his family again?  Q: What will happen if you turn from sin and turn to God?  Q: Does God love you even if you are the worst of sinners … or the most arrogant and judgmental person on the planet?
  10. Prayer  Faulkner Family – Brock is in Houston for

    100 days undergoing Leukemia treatment; his family is in College Station.  Lulu’s Son Zeniko is about to turn 18 – Pray for him to make good God-honoring decisions as he becomes an adult.  Ricardo’s friends – pray for safe travel back to SFA.  Neal and Liz – trying to graduate soon, Liz is working a lot as an interpreter and is experiencing a lot of stress.
  11. Announcements  Deaf Social October – Friday, Oct 16th Will

    be a picnic at a park (to be announced) to raise funds for a potential Deaf and Blind Park in College Station  Wednesday, Sept 28th, 6:00 PM The City of Bryan will hold a public meeting about the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) at City Hall. Come out to show your support for the Deaf community and raise concerns about accessibility within the city.
