@tboWebDesign @Joel_Hughes ! #tboRoadshowLeeds 18th July 2014

What do I do?
Where I came from… permie contractor freelancer agency? 2001 Now
*Lessons I’ve learnt… (*some)
1. Don’t worry about being small… (the battle between ‘we’
& ‘I’)
2. Be clear about who you are & what do
(don’t apologise)
(“So, how much does a simple website cost?”) 3. Clients
are not from hell (volume 1)
(filter out the tyre kickers) 4. Clients are not from
hell (volume 2)
5. Price is Relative
6. People do not buy just on price… (…so don’t
compete on price)
7. Have a process (and stick to it)
8. Bad clients are a triple whammy… (misery, pipeline cloggers
& no referrals)
9. You are allowed to fire a client :)
10. Spend time working ON the business (…not just IN
it)

this project? • “Too much? Ok, how can we reduce scope to match your budget?”
Spec one-liners…
“There will be an ecommerce element to the website”
“The website needs to have the WOW factor”
“The website needs to be future proof”
