Networking ( aka how I got my job)
There are no concrete rules when it comes to networking.
Get your foot in the door.
Societies / Networks User Groups
Then ask for clarification. Ask Questions!
S***! Summer is nearly here.
S***! Summer is nearly here.
Hey, I have nothing better to do. I'll help out.
BINGO! 7 weeks PAID intern.
Week 1 WTF?! I don't know anything
Week 2 This isn't too bad, at least I can
fake my way through my work.
Week 3 This is not so bad.
Week 3 This is not soo bad.
Week 4 I'm in love. Pinch me.
Week 4 I hate this job. Can I leave yet?
Week 5 Love it : Can this become a full
intern? Hate it : Establish why you don't like the job and see if you can take anything constructive out of it.
Hello Internship!
Here today, Gone tomorrow. Oh, I have one more year
of my degree left.
Keep your foot in the door
Part Time Job Working from home.
Warning! Having a part time job and completing your degree
is hard.
Stay in contact. Send them a Christmas card.
Graduation
10 weeks and counting
I need a graduate job
You need a graduate job

Persistence is key
Never say no to an interview. Even if it isn't
with a company you want. Consider it a practise run.
Treat informal chats like an interview. So be on your
best behaviour.
Be honest.
Be honest. This doesn't mean you tell them your life
story.
Be honest. Don't undersell OR oversell yourself. You will get
caught out.
Jackpot! I have a graduate job!
It doesn't stop there.
Warts & All. You do not truly know a company
till you join them.
Pro Tips
Keep networking
Be proactive in your field
Break the ice Mix CDs Pool Tournament Film Night
Office Politics Happens Understand it. Try and stay mutual.
Think before you speak. Just because you thought it, doesn't
mean you have to say it.
Know when you are wrong and apologise for it.
Listen to your elders They may be younger than you
in age, but they are wiser with experience.
Share your experiences If not with the general public, at
least with your future self.
Own your own career
