Hacking the law of symmetry

This were the slides from my recent performance on Trondheim's PechaKucha event on 24th August 2018. I was speaking about how art can give inspiration to science and how certain universal patterns can be actively used to solve different problems.

    Hacking the law of symmetry
  2. What is symmetry? Is it “law”? How it can be

    hacked?
  3. Perfect symmetry. Is it beautiful? Is it boring? Maybe beautifully

    boring?
  4. Breaking...

  5. OK, but let makes things great again!

  6. How did art study at the problem? Renaissance era -

perfect harmony. Leonardo da Vinci “Vitruvian Man” Leonardo da Vinci “Last Supper”
  7. How did art study at the problem? Going the opposite

extreme - intentional cHa0s. Pablo Picasso - “Guernica”
  8. How did art study at the problem? Art is definitely

still looking. Kenneth Noland - “Winds”
  9. A computer hacker is any skilled computer expert that uses

their technical knowledge to overcome a problem. How can it be hacked? And what’s hacking anyway? In my opinion, it is more generic: An individual who recognizes certain mechanisms and uses them to his/hers advantage.
  10. How is defined by nerds? ...I mean scientists. Even Symmetry

    Odd Symmetry Inversion Symmetry
  11. How is defined by nerds? ...I mean scientists. Translational Symmetry

    Periodic Symmetry Rotational Symmetry
  12. Now, how about that? ...it could almost be a logo.

Translational Symmetry Periodic Symmetry Rotational Symmetry ? ? ?
  13. Engineers build symmetric structures. Because they have fantastic properties.

  14. And then, they hack them. Because they be useful.

  15. Here is how it helped me. Quantum stuff.

  16. Here is how it helped me. Photonic waveguide sensor.

  17. Once again, we balance between harmony and chaos. Social example.

    Tipping point?
  18. Where might it have originate from? Perhaps it’s us.

  19. It is all about detuning from Perfect balance.
