Between April and October 2015, the ship set off on 3 voyages along the Northern Sea Route with expedition cargo on board. Cargo loading occurred at Ust-Lunga and Arkhangelsk and cargo offloading was delivered at Secernaya Zemlya Archipelago in Golomyanny. The Vasiliy Golovnin is being prepared to deliver cargo to the functioning Argentinian polar station in the Antarctic. Their departure is due at the end of November 2015. The voyage to Golomyanny island was met with icy conditions and rough weather. The Vasiliy Golovnin crew landed on fast ice and the rugged shores with helicopters, self-propelled barges, a non-propelled pontoon and tug boats. The Akademik Tryoshnikov was the first research vessel they reached.
