  1.         “I  think  it’s  wonderful.  It  gets

them  a  foot  in   the  door.    The  experience  they  will  gain  is   invaluable.”
  2. “Just  like  any  other  job  the  role  encompasses   navigating

conDlicting  demands  on  our  time,   managing  relationships  with  colleagues,  the   expectations  placed  on  us  individually  and  the   role  itself.  This  has  been  hugely  character   building  and  having  a  good  relationship  with   our  line  manager  has  helped  us  explore  and   work  through  any  difDiculties  around  the   role.”
  3.         “I  would  describe  the  Tavistock  as

unconventional.    I  think  I  will  never  get  the   opportunity  to  work  somewhere  like  this   again-‐  where  you  go  on  a  ‘family  outing’  to  a   sexology  exhibition.”
  4.           “I’ve  never  felt  like  I’m

the  most  junior  person   here,  but  maybe  I’m  protected.”
  5.         “This  is  a  very  unique  place

     but  it’s  not  for   everybody.”
  6. “I  like  the  way  that  you  are  more  part  of

the   team,  rather  than  just  the  apprentice.    You  can   get  involved  in  different  projects  that  appeal   to  you  and  pick  up  skills  along  the  way.”
  7. “The  qualiDication  itself  is  actually  the  least   interesting  part

of  my  time  here;  it  doesn’t  Dit   well  with  the  work  that  we  do.”
  8.         “One  challenge  is  about  qualiDications  being

recognised  [by  unis  and  employers]-‐  this  is  a   challenge  for  apprentices.”
  9. “Managing  my  own  time  and  balancing  my   responsibilities  proves

difDicult  at  points,   particularly  because  this  is  my  Dirst  full  time   job,  but  I  have  the  opportunity  to  mould  my   experience.”
  10.   “I  think  this  trust  in  our  abilities  led  us

to   realise  them  and  grow  beyond  the  perception   of  apprentices  (both  our  own  and  others).”
  11. “The  apprenticeship  here  offers  something   different  to  the  usual

experience.  We  believe   the  potential  of  apprenticeships  to  transform   both  individuals  and  organisations  hasn’t   been  fully  realised.”
  12.           “Being  here  is  a  good

experience.    I  like  the   people  and  the  type  of  work  I  get  to  do.”
  13.           “They  have  so  much  more

conDidence  now.    It   has  given  them  heaps  of  conDidence.”
  14. “Being  a  young  person  in  general  ...  you  don’t

know  what  the  hell  is  going  on  sometimes.   You  are  trying  to  decide  who  you  are.”
  15. “Less  apprenticeships  in  this  sector-‐  it  is  more   in

accounting  or  industry-‐  less  in  social   sciences.”
  16.         “Young  people  feel  like  they  have

no  time  off-‐   with  studying,  work,  deciding  what  to  do.    The   pressure  is  great  and  stressful.”
  17.   “It  is  a  good  practical  way  of  getting

experience  rather  than  going  through   education.  It  is  a  good  way  of  getting  into  the   workplace.”
  18. “There  is  a  big  pressure  and  expectation  to  go

to  university.    All  the  people  in  my  old  school   felt  this.  but  university  is  not  for  everyone-‐   there  is  not  one  size  that  Dits  all.”
  19.   “Is  a  really  good  thing.  It  hugely  beneDits  us,

as   any  new  colleague  does  by  bringing  new   skills.”
  20. ‘It  is  a  good  idea.    It  Dits  our  charitable

purpose   and  vision  as  an  opportunity  for  young   people’.
  21. “I  like  the  way  that  you  are  more  part  of

the   team,  rather  than  just  the  apprentice.    You  can   get  involved  in  different  projects  that  appeal   to  you  and  pick  up  skills  along  the  way.”
  22. “The  course  is  really  mundane  and  boring.    It

looks  like  it  hasn’t  been  updated  in  years.”
  23. “The  training  is  often  lacking  in  quality   especially  in

     the  less  traditional  apprenticeship   roles.”
