  2. LANDFILL OVERVIEW •  Owned by the City of Temple • 

    Operated by Waste Management •  Solid waste accepted from all areas within the Central Texas COG •  269 permitted acres •  Will be expanded to 440 permitted acres •  Accepts 385,000 tons of solid waste per year on average •  33,000 tons in Sept 2015 •  Began recycling program in Jan of 2014 •  FY 2014-2015 collected almost 3,000 tons of recycled material

    •  CAD files provided by Waste Management •  3 different elevation files •  Permitted excavation grades (bottom liner) •  Feb 2014 topography •  Permitted final grades (when full) SOFTWARE AND DATA
  4. Modeling Process •  Imported bottom liner CAD file into ArcMap

    •  Selected out cell boundary polylines •  Exported selected lines to a shapefile •  Used the cell boundary shapefile to select out elevations for specific area from all 3 CAD files •  Saved each elevation selection in different shapefiles for the liner, Feb 2014 topo, and final grade levels
  5. •  Added 3 TIN files to ArcScene •  Added aerial

    images with the same base height as the TINs •  Within scene properties, set vertical exaggeration to 2 •  Set layer symbols to solid with transparency and illumination in scene properties for better 3D viewing MODELING PROCESS CONT.
  6. MODEL ANALYSIS •  Created a landfill boundary polygon using the

    cell boundaries layer and saved 3 differently named copies corresponding to each TIN layer •  Used the Polygon Volume in the 3D Analyst toolset to calculate volume for each layer
  7. ANALYSIS FINDINGS Landfill Volume as of Feb 2014 (liner total

    + 2014 total) 18,287,081 yd³ Landfill Volume when Full (liner total + final grade total) 22,963,308 yd³ Percentage Full as of Feb 2014 79.60%
  8. FUTURE PLANS •  Obtain data from years prior to 2014

    and future years to create a time line of landfill elevations •  Perform volume analysis and compare to Waste Management’s volume numbers for future years •  See how population growth within City of Temple has impacted landfill’s growth over the years
