  2. No, seriously. DevOps is People • DevOps is ultimately about

people working together to create awesome things • Tools and disciplines are things that help people do great things with DevOps, not DevOps in and of themselves • Culture is a creation of people, not the other way around
  3. Who works at CAVA? • Restaurant staff and management, yes,

but also… • Marketing • Real Estate • Trainers • Data Scientists • Supply Chain Specialists • Quality Control • Culinary Direction • Artists & Copywriters • Developers & Engineers • And many more!
  4. Everyone Is On Product • Restaurant staff and management: prepare

and sell the product • Marketing: market the product • Real Estate: find places for us to prepare and sell the product • Trainers: show others how to prepare and sell the product • Data Scientists: analyze lots of things related to the product • Supply Chain Specialists: find the ingredients for the product • Quality Control: ensure the safety and flavor of the product • Culinary Direction: create recipes for the product • Artists & Copywriters: create marketing materials about the product • Developers & Engineers: write & run code to help prepare and sell the product • And many more: do many more things related to the product
  5. Everybody’s Good At Something • I’m good at clouds, servers,

and code • I’m not so good at inventory or business intelligence • I go to supply chain and BI people when I need help with inventory or analytics • Supply chain and BI people come to me for what I do well • Voltron
  6. But Wait, There’s More • Everyone at CAVA Headquarters does

restaurant training • Prep food, work the line, clean up, etc. • Keeps you connected to the bottom line • Builds empathy for the people who do this every day
  7. Lessons Learned From CAVA • Great people do great things

    • Everyone works on the product • Do what you do well; get help from others who do other things well • Culture is intentional
  8. We’re Soccer Supporters, Not Hooligans • We are enthusiastic but

not hateful or violent • We are diverse in many ways but united in passion • We seek to root out the worst and show off the best
  9. A Lot Happens Behind The Scenes • Tickets need to

be secured and distributed • Events need to be planned • In-stadium atmosphere (tifo, capos, etc.) needs to be created • Passion and enthusiasm needs to be built
  10. Everybody Loves Doing Something • I love drumming and making

tifo • I’m not into handling money or dealing with sponsors • AO lets me drum, make tifo, and sometimes capo • AO doesn’t ask me to be a treasurer or dealmaker • American Voltron "
  11. Lessons Learned From American Outlaws • Work is done by

people who show up • Use the enthusiasm of your people • People who enjoy what they do will do it better • Promote the positive while stemming the negative
  12. My Organization Is A Non- Unicorn-Like Nightmare • Is it

really? • Organizations that do nothing right accomplish nothing and eventually die • You must be doing something right
  13. OK, But We’re Still Not On The DevOps Level •

DevOps is just a word • What you’re doing is more important
  14. OK, But We Have Problems • DevOps isn’t really about

solving problems • DevOps is more about building on strengths
  15. AI Basics • Appreciate what you have • Envision what

you could do with it • Plan on what should be done
  16. Questions To Ask • What makes people work for/with you?

    • What are your coworkers good at? What are you good at? What do you and they enjoy? • What are you doing to encourage people to work together, pooling their skills towards a common goal? • How can you make all of this better?
  17. Build On The Dialogue • Just talking to each other

will help bust walls • Once you know what you can and should do with your good qualities, move forward as a team • Accept failure but not negativity. Build on mistakes to keep moving forward
  18. This Isn’t Necessarily Easy • My background is technology, not

people • I prefer doing things instead of talking about doing things • I’m an introvert
