Welcome back to time management mastery for ADHD moms. We are creating calm and confidence in your day by building rhythms and adding to it. Patricia Sung 00:10 So today we are on module three. And we're talking about all of the obstacles that we're going to need to overcome in order to get our routines and rhythms into place. So, well, my computer takes a second to get up. Reminder that you can turn off any distractions that might pull you away from our time here, and you're doing a great job. So don't stress, don't worry, we are going to get there. Patricia Sung 00:38 Okay, there we go. So, our ADHD brains like to have progression, so we understand where we're going. So we're in the first part of the class here, where we've already talked about our motivation and our framework. And today, we're talking specifically about our obstacles. And this is our last planning and prep module, when we get into next week about setting our anchors, building upon our anchors, and then between the anchors, this is the nitty gritty. So we've specifically gone into our planning and prep phase at the beginning here. Because our ADHD brains don't do that, well, we need extra help in those steps to get everything ready so that we can be successful when we get into the details over here. Patricia Sung 01:22 So it feels like a lot of thinking and a lot of planning. And our brains are kind of like, Hmm, do I want to do all this? Yes, remind your brain while you're doing it, it's so that when we get into the details, we're prepared. And we're not scrambling trying to sort out solutions for something
  2. the details, we're prepared. And we're not scrambling trying to

sort out solutions for something that we've now already had the chance to think through and let our brains kind of sit in it, and come up with ideas ahead of time. So we're diving into our obstacles in this module. We're talking about awareness. Patricia Sung 01:56 So this is one of my favorite article of mine on waitbutwhy.com It's talking about why Generation Y yuppies are unhappy with it's amazing to me, if they haven't fabulous stick figure art. But I love his illustration of when we talk about our happiness. When we think about our day in our routine, we are expecting like the unicorn on days where everything goes great. And you know, our plan is perfect, and our kids cooperate and nothing goes wrong. And we expect that our routine or our day is going to look like this rainbow unicorn, unicorn vomiting rainbows. Patricia Sung 02:37 And instead, when things start to go wrong, and we're struggling and you know, somebodies actual vomiting, instead of rainbow vomiting, and you know, kids aren't cooperating, we end up down here on these blue colored squares and reality is far below where we were hoping to be. And this difference here, it becomes frustration and disappointment. So this equation of our happiness equals our expectation. Unicorn here minus reality, which is sad face person looking up here. This is the amount of happiness. So in this case, we have less happiness because we were expecting up here. Whereas if we expect ourselves to get finished with this amount of stuff, but we actually accomplished this amount of stuff, then this becomes the happiness because you have that inverse model. Patricia Sung 03:30 So when I looked up who said this quote, I found multiple people that it was attributed to, so I'm just gonna say unknown, and hopefully I can pray that one day. All right, so we're looking at our awareness of the problems. And when we expect there to be issues, then this our you know, our expectations are lowered, it's not going to be your day, we expect there to be problems that happen, then when problems happen, where hopefully at least met at the same place, which would lead to a satisfactory result for us, instead of, you know, expecting greatness and not getting there. Patricia Sung 04:14 This is where we're working on right now is our expectation of what our day is actually going to look like. And then planning for the reality of what is coming forth. So let's jump into the kind of obstacles that we're dealing with. Patricia Sung 04:32 But we're gonna pause there for just a second and I'll be right back.
