  1. Intro Improv helps to develop the ability of connecting with

    others, by developing the following 2 skills. Yes (accepting others): instead of trying to control everything in your life let other influence you And (expressing yourself): instead of worrying about how your ideas will be judged give your input Practicing this will demonstrate to yourself that you are valuable, thus you will worry less about yourself and open yourself more to others Group games: aimed to help people get energized and comfortable doing activities that are normally out of their comfort zone Zip Zap Zop: clap focus Stand in a circle Make eye contact with a person in a circle and pass a clap around while saying Zip Zap Zop Bipdy bopdy bop Stand in a circle with one person in the middle (the middle person wants to get in circle) Person in middle face someone in the circle and say bipdy bopdy The person in circle must say bop before person in middle does In person in middle say bipdy bipdy, the person in circle can’t say anything Physical variations: person in middle someone in circle and ask they to act out a “stance” Stances: elephant, Viking, Charlie’s angels, Elvis, toaster, bird Big booty Stand in a circle One person is big booty everyone else is assigned a number Big booty chant “Big booty big booty big booty, big booty aww yea, big booty __a number___” The person being called out need to reply “their number” and “another number” on beat Yes lets Everyone walk randomly in a room A person calls out an activity “let’s go___” Everyone replies “yes lets” and act out that activity Questions only: help people understand they don’t always need a “perfect answer” Form 2 lines facing each other Have a conversation only in questions Word association: Stand in a circle One person start by saying a word and point at someone else the person being pointed at say the first word that comes to mind I’m a Stand in a circle except one person in the middle Person in the middle say “I’m a…” Someone in circle join first person and say “I’m a” Third person join them to tie the scene together The first person decide who stays on for the next round Scenic games (usually 2-4 people): aimed to help people connect with others in a scene Freeze Stand in circle except 2 people in middle doing a scene One person in circle clap and choose someone else in circle to replace someone in the middle Where has my fingers been Stand in a circle Everyone starts with 2 fingers one on each hand Chant “where has my fingers been oh where has my fingers been” Two people stick out a hand and do a 3 line scene Party hostess: quirky characters One person (hostess) leave the room, and 5 guests on stage

    host comes back into the room and interact with the guests and try to guess their quirk Board room idiots One person is the chair of the board and suggests a serious agenda topic Everyone else contribute to the discussion idiotic questions or comments Dinner party- love hate neutral Four people scene Everyone decide beforehand the person they like, hate and is neutral Act out the scene Tab on shoulder mad-lib Two people scene each with an assistant Once in a while (every 2-3 sentences) the actors in scene ask their assistant finish their sentence Translate gibberish Two people in scene with 2 assistants People in scene talk in gibberish, and the assistants translate for them Hitch hiker Two people in a car, and one person (hitchhiker) on side One person find excuse and leave car and hitchhiker enter as a character Person in car try to mimic the hitchiker’s mannerisms People of the park One person sit on the park bench Another person tries to be a character that tries to get the person on bench to leave Character interview One person act as a talk show host and introduces another person as an expert in ___ The audience asks the expert 2 questions about the person/ career Numbers Two people scene Person one can only use X number of words each time he talks Other person use a different X number of words Don’t go I’ll go Two people scene Each person tries to leave the other person to stay on stage Insults compliments Two people scene One can only use compliments & positive comments Other can only use insults & negative comments Character baseball Two batters and 4 basemen 1st baseman give the batter their voice 2nd basemen give the batter the physical posture 3rd basemen give the batter the a mannerism Home base give the batter a starting line Two batters then interact with each other in a scene Eye contact heat weight One person decide what his relation is with the other person and the event that just happened Two people make eye contact for 30s without talking Second person guesses what is the relationship and what just happened Games too advanced for first session: people need to be already comfortable with each other Meeting facilitator Lead with body part Scene from a breath
