  1. Question two, How does your media product represent particular social

groups? My media product is a stereotypical representation of the social group gender. This is shown through the news reporter saying ‘Hardy took photos off his victims’ as the male has dominance over the women and this tends to be the case in society. Age is shown stereotypically and non-stereotypical. This is shown through the use of props as the male actor is cleaning up the blood. This is non- stereotypical because stereotypically women do all the cleaning within the house. The camera movement and the movements of the murder are also non-stereotypical because stereotypically if a man killed someone he would be running away with fright but the murder in our film he is relaxed and calm about the situation and the editing is kept to the minimal. However the mise- en-scene is stereotypical because young men tend to wear jogging bottoms and hoodies it is also stereotypical of anti-social behaviour, which he committed. This is used to hide his identity and make the murder seem ‘normal’ to the audience. Another reason our film could be stereotypical is through the murders habits of pill taking, this shows that he could have a mental health issue, which would be stereotypical because in other films the murder has a reason for killing people and the reason in this case is because he is mentally unstable. Sexuality is stereotypical of horror and serial killers as women are normally the protagonists. Within our film it is shown to the extreme as the women is portrayed as weak because she got killed and the young man is shown as powerful. A quote to show that women are stereotypically the victims of serial killers is ‘Das Gracas ultimately confessed to murdering another 41 people in Rio de Janeiro since 2005, 37 of them women, three men, and one a two- year-old girl, the BBC reports’
