This session will examine new audio visual installation and maintenance from the prospective of two individuals from different universities. We'll discuss scope, cost, specifications, upkeep of AV systems in meeting rooms, student center theatres, and portable outdoor equipment.

    with what you want.  Smart rooms vs. portable equipment.  Spaces/Meeting rooms slated for AV or upgrades.  AV communication between meeting rooms/breakout rooms.  AV sources you want integrated into your system.  Control Systems : Crestron, Extron, AMX, manual, etc.  What types of events will the space support?  Prioritize “wants” vs. “needs”

    and closer – less than 4000 lumens needed  Larger and farther – more than 4000 lumens needed  Natural and room lighting – more than 8000 lumens needed  Resolution  Movies – higher is better  PowerPoint – XGA (1024x768) is very common  Audio  Voice - ½ watt per person  Music with vocals – 4 watts per person  Hard rock band – 12 watts per person  Double the above numbers if outdoors

    Projector dust filters need to be periodically cleaned  Speakers will wear out over time since they have moving parts  Microphones, cables, other accessories will suffer wear and tear  Purchase extras and accessories  Projector lamps and filters  Special adapters and cables  Protective covers or carrying cases  Have a “Plan B”  Back ups in case any media equipment fails  Outdoor equipment can double as indoor  Microphones, cables, Portable P.A.’s, and Podiums
  15.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions › Once the

    contractor leaves, it may be hard to have them come back  Keep track of the contractor’s quality of work › If you see something that appears to be installed incorrectly, ask questions  Most Important: Ask each other for advice!
