People and Heritage – Making Connections with Waterways

From the archaeology under our feet to the historic parks we love, from precious memories to rare wildlife, the Heritage Lottery Fund uses money raised by National Lottery players to help people across the country explore, enjoy and protect the heritage they care about. Since 1994 we have awarded over £110m to 3,000 waterways projects and this presentation will demonstrate the impact that this funding makes to heritage, people and communities. We will focus on how canal projects can uncover underappreciated heritage, attract new audiences and generate exciting opportunities for volunteering and training while boosting local economies.

you’re outside working away, you do think this is the best job in the world. You get to see so many different places. Most of the guys I work with are older and they pass on all their skills. You’re always learning something new.”
