  3. Godwin states that each genre has a particular characteristic that

defines its genre. A key convention of pop videos is the element of performance, meaning the video is usually either performance-based or, concept or narrative based, including the artist performing throughout. The ‘Love me Like You Do’ music video is narrative based and Ellie Goulding is playing a character role. This adopted Godwin’s theory about videos demonstrating genre characteristics as the clip has the artist performing through the duration of the video.
  4. In the video Ellie Goulding walks into a mansion and

begins to wander around. Between shots of Goulding walking around the mansion there is footage from the movie ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. While in the mansion Goulding meets a man and they begin to ballroom dance. This part of the video is intertwined with scenes of the movie in which the two main cast members are also ballroom dancing. This illustrates the synchronisation between the music video and film. Music Video Overview:
  5. Location At the beginning of the video, Ellie Goulding enter

a mansion which look extraordinary and is huge. This location show the difference between her and where she actually is as by her clothes and shots taken, we can see a simple and vulnerable girl in a big empty room. This represent how mysterious and scary love sometimes can be due to the unknown, as we don’t know where we will end up in the end. In the shot we can see that Ellie enter to the mansion and take her chance to check what is there by looking through rooms. In the end she find a man with who she is dancing and fall in love. Mansion
  6. Another location which we can spot is the empty underground

parking. Ellie Goulding is on her own and during those scene she is singing. This location isolate her from the scenes used within the music video. The empty parking represent the loneliness which people have without second person with whom she is sharing the life. Also this portray to the audience the vulnerable woman who don’t feel safe when she is alone and allow audience to feel pity towards her. Parking
  7. Prop Rest of the props used represent luxury as we

can see crystal chandeliers in the ballroom representing that something expensive which can be buy, whereas those who dancing show simple real love something that is true and free. Audience can see the different between those two things, therefore this proves Levi-Strauss theory of opposite binary as in the scene we have 2 completely different things. Prop used are typical and ordinary which could be found in the location which are shown in the music video. The props used in a scenes puts importance on the representation of something. For example, when we first see Ellie at the beginning we can see that she is carrying a bag, which represent that she is searching for something therefore she entre the mansion as she find it interesting and risk it in case to find something new and amazing. In this song she found love, therefore audience gain positive attitude towards her and want to see what happened next due to the fact that something extraordinary happen only because she risk and start search for it.
  8. Within this music video we can see strong relation between

the sound and the shots, as those two things are syncronised with each other. This means that when the music is slower and the lysrics sang are not fast the shots changing is also slow, whereas when the music become faster, pace of changing shots also speed up. This help audiece to follow the song. As the chore appear the tesion in the lysics increases, therefore the shots also speed up to create that tesion in the audience and passion so they will understand better the lyrisc and feel the emotion which is being pass to them.

  13. There is strong relationship between the lyrics and visuals as

it show narration and present love story. The lyrics describe that woman cannot live without a man as he is the reason why she is living and only person which make her survive. Also he is the one which can make her happy and sad as he is everything for her: ‘You're the light, you're the night. You're the colour of my blood. You're the cure, you're the pain’. The story goes on and show the passion and intense between lovers: ‘Love me like you do, love, love, love me like you do, touch me like you do…’, this show that she still want to be loves like she used to be loved at the beginning, it show that she is addicted to him and need only him to be fulfilled and completed. Therefore lyrics reflects this by the dance due to the fact that when dancing two people are needed to fulfil the purpose of ballroom dancing. Relationship between the lyrics and visuals
  14. What we will use in our Music Video When thinking

about music video me and my freind need to take in consideration some of the key features which are vital to portray the narration of the story. Analysing and comparing this music video to Andrew Godwin Theory have proved that certain points are essential when wanting to success wanted effect. I know that performance of the character is importnant when creating the video as this make it more real and audience can imporve that relationship with the artist creating a brand. Also another feature needed is the close-ups of artist when singing as this give the realisim of the lyrics.
