  1. Module 2 Framework - Part 2: how to keep a

calendar Wed, 4/27 9:25AM 5:01 SUMMARY KEYWORDS paper, calendar, information, option, google calendar, brain, pick, worrying, tool, schedule, planner, solidify, digital, pen, remember, system, week, age old question, skip, ical SPEAKERS Patricia Sung Patricia Sung 00:00 Hey there, welcome back to the second part of module two, and we're talking about our tools. Here's the age old question paper versus digital. Well, let's look at why you would pick one or the other. Patricia Sung 00:12 For Pro Paper, this one is for me, I love that it's visual, and you can see everything on one page. And then, to me, the most important reason that paper is helpful is that when you have the hand emotion of writing, and putting the actual pen to paper, your brain remembers so much more information, then, like any other modality. It's amazing how your brain really solidifies information with that movement of the hand, which you're not going to get when every letter looks the same Tickity checking on a keyboard. So in terms of memory, I love pen to paper writing. But we tend to lose paper planners. Patricia Sung 00:56 So why would you want to go digital, it is something that is always with you, you always have your phone with you. And it's easy to access. Any digital calendars have the option, arm should have the option to share. So if you want to share a calendar with spouses or teenagers or with work, teammates, etc, you can share those calendars. You also have the option to do notifications and reminders, which is helpful for ADHD brains. And when you update something updates across all the devices, so everyone's on the same page. And you can print out your schedule for the week or the day making it visual like you have on a paper calendar. But you aren't going to get that like memory commitment. Patricia Sung 01:39
  2. Patricia Sung 01:39 So you can do either one, it's

really important to remember, Oh, come on your computer. There we go. That there is no right answer. There's no perfect solution. One of the things that I did for a long time was I kept trying out different systems thinking that I was going to find like the right one and the one I was using wasn't good enough. And it was like a big time suck. Because there's never a perfect solution, there's always going to be something that's not going to be quite right. And the best tool is really the one you're going to use. Patricia Sung 02:11 Now if you're not sure, I would say just pick with whatever you've been doing. That's an option. And if you haven't been doing anything, then I would say go with a digital one for now. Keep in mind that whatever you pick, it's not written in stone like we're not over here with arches one or marble, you can change your mind later. But for right now we're going to pick something we're going to stick with it and really solidify this system down before we start worrying about you know whether or not you using this other brand new planner is going to be a better deal. Patricia Sung 02:39 Another tool we have with us is color coding, I find that that's very helpful for ADHD brains. I like to color code by person. So each of my kids is a different color. My spouse has a different color. work tasks versus personal tasks are different colors. My brain just like does well with that differentiation. Some people that does not help for them, that's okay, you don't have to if that it's overwhelming for you don't worry about it, we'll get back to remember simplicity matters a lot. And we want to keep our brains you know narrowed in on what we really want to be worrying about, which is, you know, getting the information down. Patricia Sung 03:18 And then also in terms of simplicity, we want to skip the sparkles. It is very tempting when you're doing say like a bullet journal, and then you've got out the washi tape and the fancy pens and we spend all this time decorating it. And we're not actually using the schedule, while that procrastination is soothing and fun. And you know, that can be deemed like a type of rest. So I'm not saying that that's all bad. But a lot of times that's just distracting us form from what we should be doing with our information. So we're going to hone in on keeping things simple. And skipping the snazzy part, which is hard for me because as a teacher, I do love a good office of life. Patricia Sung 03:59 So my system is using everything on Google Calendar. And then I actually do hybrid, I plan my week on paper, which don't get overwhelmed. This is my week, my calendars actually this this first block right here. So when I look ahead at my calendar, I fill in my schedule blocks one column on here with where I need to be and in my actual paper planner, it says like the address
  3. and when I'm supposed to bring in all that information. That

way I get the most of the best of both worlds. You do not have to do that. But it is an option if you'd like to do both of those things. Patricia Sung 04:38 Now your activity this week is to decide paper digital do not to buy anything new do not jump down the rabbit hole of options. Pick one of the free options like Google Calendar, iCal and for paper, do whatever you have or pick a plain sheet of paper and just draw seven columns on it. We are keeping it very simple plan when you wanna watch the next video.
