4:31 SUMMARY KEYWORDS week, buckets, living rooms, choices, brains, wipe, tasks, designated, cleaning, floors, homeschooling, meal, sweep, minutes, fixed, month, rotate, cycle, social studies, family SPEAKERS Patricia Sung Patricia Sung 00:00 All right now we've been talking about grouping our different tasks into different buckets. Now, there's different kinds of buckets so that not all of your buckets are gonna look the same in that way, life is not boring. Patricia Sung 00:13 So let's talk about the different ways that you can create these buckets. And some of them as my computer matches up with me, some of them are going to be fixed buckets in there. Yeah. All right, in a fixed bucket, that means it's something that looks the same every week, for example, grocery shopping, we got people to feed every week, that's probably going to be something that you do every week. And it's fairly similar right? Patricia Sung 00:36 Meal, prepping your weekly prep, maybe if you do like a Family Fun Friday, where that's your like, designated family time together. I have a friend that does that. And that's what they do every Friday, they get together as a family. And they have like a super easy meal, like, you know, something in the band, a pizza, and they do like a movie night or game night. And that's never like designated time together. So it's a fixed bucket. It's like, this is what we're doing at this time. And we know that looks like. Patricia Sung 01:03 Now, you can also do menu style buckets, where you are saying like, Okay, I know I'm going to clean it this time. But I know that if I say like, I'm definitely going to mop the floors, that I'm probably going to get there and be like, no, no one of my floors. So in that case, you can create menu style buckets, where you have some like choices clump together, and figure out what you like, feel okay with.
  2. Patricia Sung 01:27 So for example, if you know that

you're going, you need to like you have 15 minutes, you could put stuff away for 15 minutes, or sort through papers for 15 minutes, or maybe you have an hour. So I can put a bunch of stuff away for 15 minutes, wipe off the counters and sweep the floor. Or I could dust the living room, wipe fingerprints off Windows and sort of paperwork for 15 minutes. Patricia Sung 01:54 Having these two different choices is a little bit happier space for our brains. So it's not like you have to do this at this time. But it's still like a predetermined task, you're not sitting there debating like, well, I don't know, maybe maybe I should be like scrubbing the toilets right now. But I haven't done that in a while. But I know that I really do need to wipe out these kind of like we're taking that like struggle bus out because we've already decided, when it's cleaning day, I'm going to do this group, this group. Patricia Sung 02:28 And it could be even like for groups of like, well, I got to rotate these to the month. So I'm going to do like, oh, that's the next thing I'm going to hammer off. So when you have these two separate, like options, it just feels nicer to our brains to have a choice instead of I have to sweep today. Patricia Sung 02:49 Okay. Now the one I started talking about but shouldn't have yet it was the rotating buckets. And that's where you know, you have a set amount of stuff that needs to get done in the week. So you can divide it like for your month, you've got four weeks, and break them up into sections. Patricia Sung 03:07 So for week one, for maybe in homeschooling, you're doing reading in science, the next week, you're doing math in writing, the next week, you're doing arts and social studies. And then the last week is like, catch up on whatever it is we didn't get done yet. The same thing for cleaning, one can be week one, we're cleaning the kitchen next week, we're doing bathrooms next week, we're doing bedrooms, and the next week, we're doing living rooms, and you can shuffle these all around. Patricia Sung 03:32 And do them in whatever order you feel like you can match them to your cycle and do cycle thinking and be like, okay, living rooms the easiest, I'm going to do that the week of my cycle
  3. thinking and be like, okay, living rooms the easiest, I'm

going to do that the week of my cycle because I've got less energy. I'm going to power through bathrooms the week after because I tend to have more energy the week after my cycle. So you can make this fit you in whatever way makes your brain happy. But we do want to have some kind of set plan because when it's just willy nilly that our brains like I don't know what to do this too much, right? Patricia Sung 04:04 So we either want to make the bucket like this is what I'm doing. It's a fixed bucket. I have a choice of like, I know I must clean something. So what are my choices here, or like a rotation where I know these four tasks need to get done at some point this month, or at some point next two months, and I'm going to just work my way through them until they all get done. Patricia Sung 04:26 Okay, I'm gonna pause there and continue in just a moment.
