Self-Organizing the organization

Self-Organizing the organization

conf.xp2016.org @XP2016
Since the breakthrough of Agile methodologies in the Software industry, project management has been transformed radically: from centralized command-and-control structures to self-organised teams. Agile methodologies have not only introduced a new set of practices, but also a new set of values and principles.
Although, it might seems contradictory, there are nowadays a big number of self-organised teams working within hierarchical organisations that are governed by a traditional top-down structure. Sensitive information is kept a secrecy and strategic decisions are made solely by the CEO and the leadership team. How does management in the 21st century has to be transformed in order to not just give people control on their own work, but also empower them to manage the organisation they are working for?
To leverage and make the most of the values and practices of Agile methodologies, a different management model should be applied. In this presentation we will take a closer look at the challenges of self-organised organisations, which some of the recent literature has named as evolutionary-teal. We will cover a diverse set of topics from the organisation structure and how information flows through it, to the decision-making process and core activities such as recruiting, performance reviews, compensation and rewards.
