Presentation Abstract

There is an emergence in popularity and acceptance of Smart Devices and Smart Device Applications in Software Development market. While developers are building on their technical skills to accommodate these evolving trends, equally important is for the test team to understand what it takes to test mobile applications and be prepared to take up the huge volume of testing with smart test approaches. Test Automation has been the key driving factor in delivering Test Coverage smartly.

In wake of the growing Smart Devices Application Testing needs, this paper is an attempt to check QA InfoTech's readiness to be smart, as we have always been, in testing Smart Device

Applications:
The paper would try to answer following questions:
• Is test automation even feasible on smart devices?
• What are the challenges involved in such automation and what are effective solutions to adopt given the short time window the team operates in?
• What are the various kinds of applications (e.g. native, web, hybrid) to be factored in and how does the automation strategy change with each of them?
• What tools ably support in the test process, at this time?

This paper would be a showcase of the research work QA InfoTech's Research and Development Group has done to develop innovative solutions to solve some of the challenges in test automation of Smart Device Applications. The presenter will walk us through the test automation challenges along with live demonstrations showcasing test automation undertaken for various application types.

About the Author

Ramandeep has been with QA InfoTech since its very early years in 2004. As a Senior Manager Quality Engineering & Test Automation, he has worked on a varied set of projects and test efforts. His areas of expertise include test automation using open source solutions, testing application management technologies, localization testing, web services testing and application APIs testing. Ramandeep plays an active role in the company in enhancing the test automation solutions and evangelising them.
Besides being an active practitioner, Ramandeep is an active speaker and presenter at software testing conferences. Ramandeep is also a hands on software testing and test automation trainer. He has trained several engineers in test automation at companies of the likes Intuit and Headstrong.
Ramandeep holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Information Technology from Bhavnagar University, Gujarat, India.
