 TO DO WITH

    US ?
  8. @spencerturner BUILD IT
 TO LAST

  9. @spencerturner It was my dream as a kid to get

    on the Zephyr team
 – I got on
 the team Stacy Peralta
  10. @spencerturner Build it To last

  11. @spencerturner Nobody held a team as long as Stacy has,

I mean phhhff, no one even half the time
he was the glue that held us all together. MIKE MCGILL
  12. @spencerturner DEVELOP
 RAW TALENT

  13. @spencerturner I wanted this to be no name guys

that no one had ever seen,
and so I started picking up young amateurs that I knew I could develop Stacy Peralta
  14. @spencerturner Here I am
 10 years old
 and

I’m like this big and these guys are like 2ft higher than me. Steve Caballero
  15. @spencerturner FIND THE
 OUTLIERS

  16. @spencerturner FIND THE OUTLIERS

  17. @spencerturner Don’t let anything poison your individuality,
 be away,

breakaway, look inward, not outward. RODNEY MULLEN
  18. @spencerturner CRAIG STEYCK

  19. @spencerturner Tony & Rodney were both outsiders
 from the

beginning, and for a long time what they were doing was considered odd. CRAIG STEYCK
  20. @spencerturner AHEAD OF THE CURVE

  21. @spencerturner It was like I found a home of misfits.

    TONY HAWK
  22. @spencerturner LOOK FOR
 CHARACTer

  23. @spencerturner Ultimately what I was looking for
 was a

kid who had fire in him. Stacy Peralta
  24. @spencerturner It wasn’t about winning,
 it was about showing

    up
and doing your best. Stacy Peralta
  25. @spencerturner It was really like hard to believe,
 here

    were these little soft kids,
but all their integrity and heart
was in skateboarding. Glen .E Friedman - Photographer
  26. @spencerturner EVERYONE’s A MENTOR

  27. @spencerturner
I couldn’t believe that I was seen in

any sort of similar light to Steve Caballero. TONY HAWK
  28. @spencerturner Coming in from Florida and flying in and seeing

the guys, and seeing what they would do, I would just look at ‘em go, and just be there kinda feelin’ so privileged cruisin’ around in the volvo RODNEY MULLEN
  29. @spencerturner I liked that feeling of being with a group

of guys, competing against each other, but at the end of the competition,
we’re leaving as friends, as a team. STEVE CABALLERO
  30. @spencerturner Nah, you’re partying and having a good time ‘cos

    you can’t compete with Caballero.
Phhfff. Man up, man up and beat us!
Not me personally, they always beat me. Hehehe. But man up and beat my boys! LANCE MOUNTAIN
  31. @spencerturner There’s a part of it that most guys will

attest to - we want to make Stacy happy TOMMY GUERRERO
  32. @spencerturner BELIEVE IN YOUR TEAM

  33. @spencerturner I saw him skate and I felt it in

my heart, just a bolt hit me and I went “oh my god that kid is unbelievable” Stacy Peralta
  34. @spencerturner BELIEVE IN YOUR TEAM

  35. @spencerturner You need to have someone that believes in you.

No other team, no other company had that guy. LANCE MOUNTAIN
  36. @spencerturner BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

  37. @spencerturner SELF BELIEF

  38. @spencerturner EXCELLENT PEERS

  39. @spencerturner Alan Gelfand invented the ollie,
 when he was

    an amateur.
He invents the trick of the century,
when he was an amateur. STACY PERALTA
  40. @spencerturner Caballero at 16 years of age,
 invents the

Cabalariel. He takes what Alan Gelfand’s done with the ollie, and now he does it in the air 360 ollie. STACY PERALTA
  41. @spencerturner For me Cabalariels were a game changer because it

made you realise you can do difficult spinning manoeuvres or technical manoeuvres without grabbing your board. TONY HAWK
  42. @spencerturner Seeing guys like my heros Alan Gelfand, invent the

ollie, I mean that was ppffwow - that’s a legacy for him. And then Caballero doing the cabalarial, I’m like, wow that’s great, you know. What am I gonna do? Mike Mcgill
  43. @spencerturner THE McTWIST

  44. @spencerturner Tony took the McTwist and all of a sudden

he’s doing one foot McTwists, then he’s doing board varial McTwists, and then he does the absolute unthinkable, which is the Ollie McTwist, he does a McTwist not even grabbing his board! STACY PERALTA
  45. @spencerturner PUSHING EACH OTHER

  46. @spencerturner IT’s NOT ABOUT THE MONEY

  47. @spencerturner When we got into skating, you did not become

rich or famous if you were good at skateboarding. No one did, no matter how good you were. TONY HAWK
  48. @spencerturner When George and I first started talking,
 I

just liked him, I trusted him. He wasn’t doing this to make a million Dollars, and I wasn’t either. STACY PERALTA
  49. @spencerturner RESILIENCE & PERSISTENCE

  50. @spencerturner But then what happened,
 is skateboarding started to

    dive. STACY PERALTA
  51. @spencerturner I was so young that all I knew was

that my friends had quit skating, all the parks were closing, but I wasn’t going to quit.
I still had a skateboard, that’s all I needed. TONY HAWK
  52. @spencerturner It was such an intoxicating place to be that

these backyard events started to grow the sport again. STACY PERALTA
  53. @spencerturner Where we made the first video, thinking we might

    sell 300, we sold 30,000.
 It was unbelievable.
 They became manifestos. STACY PERALTA
  54. @spencerturner The videos added a human element,
 we weren’t

just this untouchable elite crew of skaters, they showed that we were silly, we fall. TONY HAWK
  55. @spencerturner Expose your WEAKNESSES

  56. @spencerturner EXPOSE YOUR WEAKNESSES

  57. @spencerturner If it’d just been Rodney Mullen,
 Steve Caballero

and Tony Hawk in the video, I mighta gone damn, skating is tough, it’s hard, I’ll never be that good,
 but Lance Mountain presented skating
as something accessible. Mike ValleLy - Pro Skateboarder
  58. @spencerturner Lance let you say it’s OK to be a

crappy skater, and I’m not saying Lance was a crappy skater, but you can love skating and that’s enough. SEAN MORTIMER - SKATEBOARDING WRITER
