  1. As time went on, I cared about Twitter followers, email

subscribers, Facebook likes, Instagram followers, and podcast downloads...
  2. The promise & opportunity of social media marketing has largely

left us with diminishing returns as each new platform emerges.
  3. Our workload continues to increase as we jump from new

opportunity to new opportunity even as those opportunities have shorter & shorter lifespans.
  4. Is there a way to end this cycle while... -Strengthening

our relationships to customers and prospects? -Learning more about what our customers really need from us as providers? -Scaling back our workloads when it comes to marketing and sales?
  5. I’m not saying you should start a Facebook group as

an alternative to an email list, Facebook page, or blog.
  6. Create the space and get the hell out of the

way. This isn’t about you. It’s about them.
  7. When you get out of the way, you can see

members’ real activity, problems, and preferences.
  8. Connect, don’t broadcast. The best way to learn about the

problems people are facing and actually care about is by letting them talk to each other.
  9. Get transparent When you show up, aim for honesty &

transparency with every communication. Take them behind-the-scenes.
  10. Don’t wait for the next wave of digital marketing to

    transform your business--create your own.
