Foundational Event New Core Belief Trigger Event Reinforced Core Belief TIME PASSES This is one event or a series of events that are impactful in that they drive a new core and often subconscious belief. The foundational event triggers a positive or negative emotion that defines the new core belief. The new core belief assigns meaning to the emotional state, and can be triggered by future events that elicit a similar emotional response. At a later time, another separate event may occur that elicits a similar emotional response to the foundational event. This familiar emotional experience triggers the core belief, assigning meaning to the event, and further reinforcing this belief.
