course contents • Analysis: accurate – extensive background research • Style: relatively easy (stop motion, whiteboard, etc) • Quality: good audio and video quality - no limits to creativity
  4. 7 Alberto Lusoli Example 2 • Subject: in line with

course contents • Analysis: background research on linkedin, but weak connection with course theories • Style: complicated (acting) • Quality: excellent audio and video quality
  5. Common mistakes: • Poor audio quality • Indiscriminate use stock

  6. 9 Alberto Lusoli Approach 1. what is the technology, how

does it work, what came before? 2. who uses it and what do they use it for and why? (e.g., try it out yourself, find out what it is for) 3. what are experts saying about this service/technology? (find some research papers about it, or a related technology issue) 4. what do the users think about it? (some interviews, perhaps?)
  7. 10 Alberto Lusoli Deliverables List of Group Members and Resources

Once your group is formed, determine whether you have the necessary resources for this assignment and how you plan to communicate as a group. At a minimum, you need to identify the following: 1. Who has access to a digital camera? 2. Who has access to a fast computer and video editing software? If nobody, which computer lab is the most convenient for everyone? 3. What days/times are best to meet as a group? 4. How will you communicate as a group (meetings, IM, telephone, etc.)?
  8. 11 Alberto Lusoli Deliverables Outline As a group, create an

outline of the main points of the topic. The outline should include 5- 10 main points Additional research on the topic is highly encouraged and rewarded (up to 6 marks)
  9. 12 Alberto Lusoli Deliverables List of Group Roles Consider the

following roles as a starting point to divide up tasks and responsibilities: 1. Director 2. Producer 3. Editor 4. Script/Screenwriter 5. Camera Operator 6. Graphic Artist Each person in your group may have one or more of these roles. Similarly, there may be more than one group member per role, such that you may have 2 Editors or 2 Screenwriters, for example.
  10. 13 Alberto Lusoli Deliverables List of media objects Short videos

like this are made up of objects. The narration is key, but there are the images (still and moving) as well as sound effects, graphics, titles and credits, etc.
  11. 14 Alberto Lusoli Deliverables Video Script Write a script for

your documentary video. The script does not need to include exactly what each person will say in the video, but should include details about the major components of the video and how they are related. That is, briefly introduce the focus or format of your video and describe the sequence of elements that will make up your movie. In addition, indicate which points you plan to include. The script should be approx. 1-2 double-spaced pages in length.
  12. 15 Alberto Lusoli Let’s start! Let’s start working on: 

List of group members and resources  Brainstorming ideas for the Outline
