  1. Tuition will increase 5.49 percent this year to $3,948. The

    spread between tuition amounts has increased since 2003, but is lower than the prior year. The difference between the highest annual tuition to lowest has increased from $420 in 2003 to $630 in 2012.   2. Tuition has cumulatively grown 66 percent since 2003 while mandatory

  4. According to The Chronicle of Higher Education, the average tuition

    and fees at Iowa’s community colleges exceeds that national average by $1,278. Tuition increases within Iowa (55%) is larger than the national average (45%). National Comparisons 6
  5. By law, community college tuition cannot exceed the minimum tuition

    at the public universities. In 2012, community college tuition will be 38.48 percent lower than the average tuition at Iowa’s public universities.   6. Iowa’s public universities increased tuition by 5 percent for 2012

    compared to the 5.49 percent for community colleges. The rate of tuition growth for community colleges has also exceeded public universities in 2006, 2009, and 2010.
